Prevention is the key for a long, healthy life! An annual physical exam gives us the opportunity to make sure your pet is getting proper basic health care. We tailor our recommendations to their individual needs. In addition to the exam, annual recommendations for optimal health include:

  • Vaccinations as needed on an individual basis
  • Flea prevention and control
  • Heartworm testing and prevention
  • Intestinal parasite testing and prevention
  • Nutritional recommendations
  • Dental exam and treatment as needed

Preventing a disease is always more effective than treatment once your pet has developed a disease.  For example, simple vaccination can prevent deadly diarrhea caused by parvovirus, and costs less than $25. If your dog comes down with parvo death is very possible even with excellent treatment, which can easily cost $1000 or more.

Older pets run the risk of developing many diseases. An exam every 6 months, and annual comprehensive blood chemistry analyses help us to diagnose a disease process early, which can lead your pet to a longer, healthier life. For example, an early diagnosis of kidney disease will allow us to modify your dog or cat’s diet to extend their lives, and maintain their quality of life. There are many other conditions to which an early diagnosis is advantageous.
